B&W Closeup of Ruth Collis

B&W Closeup of Ruth Collis

Acrylics on Stretched Canvas
48x60 Gallery Wrapped Finished Edges - original painting

Photo came first... from a cool feature of the Olympus camera, then the black & white painting.

"This is a photo of myself, where I wanted to try replicating this photo with texture & just saw it large size in my mind. I got the idea from a friend saying the photo looked like a painting, so I went to make a painting from the idea." Ruth

Ruth used her own synthetic hair for extensions to make this piece. It required making a long trough out of corregated plastic, where the hair was dragged through thick black paint, then placed on canvas, styled just right.

It was just so crazy-weird seeing goops of paint in this messy hair strand mixture... I wondered what in the heck I was doing half way through, but glad I finished, & when dried, cutting the hair ends off the edges with some hand sheers made a really nice clean cut, modern looking edge." Ruth

Different views are below of this 4x5 foot painting. Dry-brushing around lips and signature formed from just using a mixture of glossy versus matte varnishes.

This has also been the most fun painting to have behind in the background for a photo shoot with friends." Ruth

There are only 2 other paintings from Ruth of synthetic hair dipped in paint:

Macaw Abstract

Electric Hair
